Wiregrass EV Charging LLC is here to help bring electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to the Wiregrass area of Alabama. As electric vehicle owners ourselves, we understand how charging vehicles is different from refueling internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Charging becomes a destination itself and is critical to planning your routes as you drive. When electric vehicles charge on a DC fast-charger, the drivers stop for 20-45 minutes and snack, eat, shop, rest, and spend time in the immediate area. Businesses near the charging location get more customers and helps to increase revenue and sales. More business is always better, and EV drivers tend to shop more and spend more when they are recharging.

We saw that there were no public charging stations in Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Pike, and Covington Counties (as of Dec 2020).

Wiregrass EV Charging LLC is bringing EV charging to Southern Alabama and will help to bring solutions for drivers and businesses in the area. We are working to bring Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers (DC-FC) (Level-3 Charging) to the area. DC-FC will help EV drivers to recharge quickly and get back on the road. We will also help to establish Level 2 240v charging for home, businesses, customers, and multi-family housing. Level 1: 120v household wall outlet -

Charge-time: most EVs in more than 24+ hours (4mi/hr)

Level 2: 240v dedicated charger (EVSE) or 50a RV receptacle

Charge-time: most EVs in 2-4 hours (30-40mi/hr)

Level 3: 400-800v Charging Station (DC-FC) or CCS1 or CHAdeMO (Tesla Adapters Available)

Charge-time: most EVs in 2-4 hours (30-40mi/hr)

Level 1 Charging

Home charging
Requires a grounded (three-prong) standard residential 120V outlet
Suitable for low- and medium-range plug-in hybrids
Suitable for all-electric battery electric vehicle drivers with low daily driving usage
Adds 5 miles per hour

Level 2 Charging

Home and public charging
Typically requires a charging unit on a 240V outlet, like one used to power an electric clothes dryer
May require a service upgrade by a certified electrician
The 240V outlet charges in about half the time it takes to charge at a 120V outlet

Public Level 2 chargers have a standard EV connection plug that fits all current vehicles, except for Teslas, which require an adapter
